The Threat to Our Community

The proposed jail diversion facility at the Monterey-Bernal site posed significant concerns for our District 10 community. This plan, developed without proper consultation with residents or local representatives, would have brought individuals from the criminal justice system into a residential area near schools and families. Such a facility could have impacted property values, community safety, and the overall quality of life that makes our district a great place to live and raise families.

Community Response

The response from our community was swift and powerful. Over 500 residents attended the second County-led meeting, sending a clear message: "No Jail Diversion!" Thousands signed petitions and sent emails voicing their opposition. This grassroots effort demonstrated the deep concern and engagement of District 10 residents in matters affecting their neighborhoods.

This victory was only possible due to the amazing residents of District 10 and their unwavering commitment to our community's well-being. Your voices, your dedication, and your tireless efforts were the driving force behind this success.

Councilmember Batra extends his heartfelt gratitude to each and every person who participated in this crucial effort. Thank you for standing up for our neighborhood and proving that when we unite, we can achieve remarkable results.
